Photo Frame Size Guide

Best Frame Size for Family Photos on Wall

Pick family photo frame sizes that look balanced on a wall, avoid cropping group shots, and create a cohesive gallery layout.

Best Frame Size for Family Photos on Wall

Family photos usually include multiple faces, which makes cropping and size choice more sensitive than a solo portrait. Use these rules to pick a size that looks good and keeps everyone in-frame.

Best sizes for most family walls

  • 11x14: a safe, visible upgrade from 8x10
  • 16x20 or 18x24: great “main wall” sizes
  • 24x36: statement size (works best with high-resolution originals)

Group shots: cropping risk is higher

People at the edges are the first to get trimmed when aspect ratios don’t match. Before printing, check the ratio and preview the crop.

Wall balance rule (single piece)

For one main frame, aim for the artwork to be roughly 40%–70% of usable wall width. More guidance here: Best frame size for wall.
